Health services in this central part of the state are provided by the Augusta and Waterville campuses of MaineGeneral Health, which includes a teaching unit associated with Dartmouth Medical School. MaineGeneral opened a state-of-the-art Alfond Cancer Care Center in Augusta in 2007 and in 2013 completed its $312 million hospitals in Augusta to serve a population of 180,000 primarily in Kennebec and Somerset Counties. Other health facilities include the VA Maine Healthcare System, Home Resources of Maine, HealthReach Network home services, and a number of others.
