Chamber Connections is a quarterly series that focuses on the political environment within the State Capitol. Each program is designed to be a non-partisan, informational presentation that addresses topics that directly and indirectly affect Chamber members. The goal of Chamber Connections is to inform and educate members while encouraging their participation in the political process.

About Jim

Jim Cohen is a partner with the law firm Verrill Dana where he has been practicing utilities and energy law for over 30 years on behalf of solar developers, utilities, and consumers. Jim is also a former mayor of Portland and a former board chair of the Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce as well as former volunteer president of the Portland Community Chamber of Commerce. Jim is a former president of Portland Trails, former vice president of the Portland Symphony Orchestra, and a current advisory trustee of Project Green Schools. Jim received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University, and his law degree from the Columbia University School of Law. Jim grew up in Portland where he attended Deering High School, and he continues to live in the City.

Jim currently works with Maine Affordable Energy which is a ballot question committee formed to help educate Mainers about the risks associated with Pine Tree Power, Question 3 on the November ballot. Coalition partners of Maine Affordable Energy include the Maine State Chamber of Commerce, the Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Maine AFL-CIO, the IBEW, the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine, Hospitality Maine, numerous other business trade groups and labor unions, 140 individual businesses, 81 former legislators from both sides of the aisle, and over 11,000 individual Mainers – and growing.
