Fletcher’s Company of the St. George area and the Daniel Savage’s Company of Fort Western in Augusta are pleased to announce a Revolutionary War Living History. Encampment to take place the weekend of Saturday, August 12th & Sunday, August 13th.
Re-enactors will demonstrate and interpret military history, mission, equipment, skills and experiences of the local militia. Soldiers and camp followers will practice military drill, fire muskets, cook, lawn bowl, and otherwise entertain. Dr. Cony will bring medical tools of the period to demonstrate procedures such as amputation of damaged limbs, etc.
On Saturday, throughout the day, several short “scouts” will be conducted by Fletcher’s Company and the public is invited to participate. Youngsters will be issued wooden muskets and, after training, will accompany the soldiers as they search for the Loyalists. On Sunday morning there will be a longer two hour scout on the trails from 9-11.
The 1761 Pownalborough Court House, operated by the Lincoln County Historical Association, is on Courthouse Road off Rte. 128 in Dresden. Normal museum hours are Sat. 10-4, Sun 12-4 through Columbus Day weekend, and also Tuesday through Friday 10-4 in August.
