Monmouth is a quintessential Maine town comprised of artistic culture and agriculture. The town was first settled as Freetown in 1776 and would also become called Bloomingborough and Wales before being incorporated as Monmouth in 1792.
Monmouth is a friendly walking village with access to the eateries, shops, the public beach, the library, and the professional Shakespearean theater, the Theater at Monmouth. Historic buildings on Main Street are part of the Monmouth Museum and are open to the public in the summer months.
Monmouth has a diverse mixture of artists, light manufacturing, health services and many in-home businesses along with an excellent school system. Outdoor recreation of running, biking, boating, snowmobiling and sportsman activities are all part of the good life that Monmouth offers.
