Thomas seeks a faculty member in Early Childhood Education effective Spring 2024 or Fall 2024 to join a vibrant and expanding College dedicated to student success. The Lunder School of Education (LSOE) at Thomas College prepares preservice teachers for teacher certification through quality education and experience. Credentialling programs include Early Childhood Education, Early Elementary Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education (Life Science, English, Social Studies, and Mathematics), and Dual-Certification Middle Level Education (5-8; English/Science, English/Social Studies, Math/Science). Students benefit from close working relationships with faculty and numerous opportunities to work in the PK-12 classroom, including through established partnerships with schools such as Educare in Waterville, Maine.
Candidates should be prepared to support the College’s programs in education within the LSOE, with an emphasis on working with entering students interested in the teaching profession and a variety of courses towards teacher credentialling, such as educational psychology and early childhood level methods coursework. The LSOE is especially interested in a potential faculty member who has experience and expertise working at the early childhood and early elementary levels, as well as someone who would engage with first-year students in a way to lay critical foundational skills in lesson planning, relationship-building, and innovative instruction. Teaching with familiarity and knowledge of current research and practice is an expectation.
Candidates will also be expected to work collaboratively with faculty within LSOE as well as those outside of LSOE in content-area disciplines such as science, math and social studies, to model collaborative communication and practice with our future teachers.
Candidates must be committed to teaching excellence, service to the College, community engagement, and professional development. Responsibilities for full time faculty include a 4/4 teaching load, academic advising, committee service, and course/program development. Teaching assignments may include online or hybrid courses and may be at the undergraduate or graduate level.
